Password management system LastPass was also targeted this past August in an impersonation attack where hackers breached the development environment to steal source code and customer data. This Norton LifeLock data breach focused on password managers and is part of an uptick in attacks on identity and access management systems. Credential stuffing is a type of data breach where hackers use previously stolen lists of information, such as usernames and passwords, to gain unauthorized access to accounts. The company reports credential stuffing as the likely culprit for the attack. Criminal hackers attempted to break into Norton LifeLock customer accounts and possible password managers, meaning they might have gained access to customers’ usernames, passwords and other personal information. Recently, thousands of Norton LifeLock customer accounts were compromised in a data breach.
